Is there anyway to block IPs of proxies that these people would use? I've seen a few registrations that are obviously originate from Asian countries. Is it possible to block people from accessing via proxies as well with the .htaccess file?

no not with .htaccess you can't you must have a proxy blocker. i have one that works very well, but i can't give it away for free, it took too long to make.

The smart ones just use an anonymity network like Tor http://www.torproject.org/

as for anonymity  this blocker blocks SOCKS5 & SOCKS6

How can I test that? I am curious, I wanna get blocked while on tor, i've never seen it before ;D
