Changed my light bulbs - saved $100.00
« on: July 15, 2008, 05:31:39 AM »
I just got my electric bill and I saved $100.00  (I live in a very small house, 624 sq. feet, and the only thing that's not electric is the heat) I changed 6 light bulbs in my house, to the new flourescent ones.  1 in each of two bedrooms, one in the bathroom, one in the kitchen, and 2 in the living room, and when I got my electric bill it was at least $100.00 less than normal.  It could be higher because I don't have central and, and have 2 air conditioners running all the time lately.
If you try them, at first you're going to think they suck for a light source.  Just as dusk hits and you start to turn them on, you think you can't see anything.  And they give off a weird blue color,  but after a while you get used to them.
They do last longer, although I don't think it's quite as long as they say.
They are a bit more expensive, but if you belong to one of the wholesale clubs it's worth the investment.  So we could say I saved $70.00 this month!
Try them.

(hhmmm could I be an affiliate for them I wonder   ::) )

Just thought I'd share,

Thanks for sharing this information.  Yes ... a lot of those fluorescent and energy-saving light bulbs claim to last seven years ... when, in reality, you're fortunate if they don't burn out before the year is over.   :(

In the long run, though, it's another way to cut back on the electric bill if you're not ready to convert to solar and/or wind power.

Actually quite a few companies make them.  One of them is GE.  But I guess you'd be better off being an affiliate for Walmart.  At least someone who only shops at home may buy them online.  Other than that you can pretty much get them anywhere now.

Oh and Rich, I could save some more money, by shutting up and turning the damn computer off for a while!  :P

I love the environment. This is what people need to be doing instead of pissing time away on these PTC sites, they should be going out and buying compact fluorescent bulbs and hybrid cars. I mean jesus christ, how much of a price increase in fossil fuels does everyone need in order to embrace a paradime shift in thinking green.

A quote I took from the ABC website, about these light bulbs.

"If every US household were to change -- let's say one -- in their home to an Energy Star, it would be the equivalent of removing 800,000 cars off the road, with respect to greenhouse gas emissions," said Wendy Reed of the E.P.A. "It would save enough energy to light three million homes and save $600 million in energy costs."

Interesting huh!
